A pocket spring mattress works like this: whereas traditional mattresses are a layer of springs, beneath filling fabric and usually a metal rod frame, pocket sprung mattresses have each metal spring inside it's own individual fabric pocket. At first that might sound irrelevant - but what occurs is that the fabric functions like a shock absorber, increasing the firmness of the mattress and reducing bounce, making for a more evenly balanced and supported sleeping experience. Some consumer confusion has existed over the best number of springs to have inside a pocket sprung bed.

Here at Beds 2U, we believe that 1000 count is the best compromise between price and firmness. Having any less than 1000 is a more budget mattress (for example the common 600-800 count mattress) - and in our opinion, too soft to provide the comfort expected of these well-established mattresses. But very much more than 1000 (the 1500 and 2000 counts sometimes sold) makes the product, in our opinion, too hard, and less usable by the average consumer, especially if they're buying pocket springs for the first time. Our 1000 count pocket sprung mattresses are a popular seller with our more luxury clientele - but that doesn't mean they aren't affordable.
